Week 2 ANZAC and Cobblestones Museum

Another busy week in Room 3 with the highlight being our trip to Cobblestones Museum in Greytown. Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers for making it such a wonderful day, we were very fortunate also to have sunshine for our picnic afterwards. To follow are a few photos of the group I was with, more photos to come...

Working with our study buddy on our script for our ANZAC puppet pals story, we worked really well as a team and have created both our characters and our background scene. Later in the week we hope to put our stories together and play them on the big screen, or the class TV, watch out Peter Jackson!

Rm 3 at the senior school ANZAC service. We talked about how we had to be very respectful at a memorial service and did a great job of standing tall and listening carefully.

A highlight was a ride in the old car. Lots of noticing differences between transport then and now like no roof and no seatbelts!

The old church was quite different to churches we go to now...

We were so lucky to be able to make our very own press print. The old machinery and steps involved in printing amazed us, very different to press print.

We were so surprised and a little scared of school in the olden days and all the rules. We loved playing olden day students right down to doing tiny script handwriting. We are glad Mrs Sala doesn't have a cane or strap! The trickiest part for some of us was remembering when we could and could not talk.

Being able to touch and explore the old tools was really exciting and helped us to imagine what it must've been like in the olden days.

Rex had us all curious as to what was behind the door in the old toilet, and a lot of us ran away when the door finally opened. This has been a hot topic of conversation since our trip!

Term 2, Week 1

It was awesome to have Sharon back this week, she worked with us on ball control and tackling. We had to focus really hard but we loved the games we played that let us try out our new skills.

This week we were learning all about the history of ANZAC and why this is an important event for New Zealand. We read a different story about ANZAC every day and even watched a short documentary. This helped us in our writing and activities about ANZAC as we worked in small groups and by ourselves. We loved making ANZAC biscuits on Friday with Miss Playle, it was a yummy way to finish the week!
Making poppies and debating the best way to achieve it...
Working on our trench backgrounds for next week
Getting our ANZAC characters finished, there were soldiers, nurses, horses and dogs.

Checking our writing with our study buddy, we loved to share our writing .

Before school this week Bryn shared his bubbles with Rm 3 and other Students. Mrs Sala just had to capture the excitement and collaboration of Rm 3 students. She was very proud of how we all co-operated and talked together.

MacKay found some amazing wood patterns in a log that he thinks had been left by a wood worm. We really appreciate how MacKay keeps on bringing in the incredible things he finds when he is out and about with his family. We have added this treasure to our science table along with the huge bone last term, thanks MacKay!

The weeks that were....

My apologies for neglecting our blog site, as you know the children and I have had such a busy few weeks, it is nice to think about a week ahead mostly in our classroom catching up on routines and things like staying in touch! We do have a lot to look forward to over the next 2.5 weeks till the end of term though, so please follow the school facebook page, drop me an email or see me outside of class hours in the mornings or after school. The weather has turned and I am insisting children wear school jumpers at play and home, although we have had a couple of Jersey mix ups so please ensure all property is named and that your learner has bought home the right one!! To follow is a selection of pics that capture some of what we have been up to in the classroom, at school, and out and about. So many very cool experiences, we have been so very lucky. A huge thank you for the wonderful support from parents and whanau in making sure your child has been organised from home and to those that have been able to come and join us, we couldn't have done it so smoothly without you.

A recent reliever described your wonderful learners as a gorgeous group, full of energy, fun and enthusiasm. I couldn't have said it any better myself, you should be very proud! The photos say it all...
